Just got back to LA after spending another lovely weekend up in Pine Mountain Club. I love our quarterly Theatre Unleashed Writers’ Den Writing Retreats. It’s so nice to get out of town for a few days, leave all of our normal routine concerns behind, and focus exclusively on creation.

While working on Carrie: The Musical Horror last year at Boston Court Pasadena for Sequoyah School, I connected with the President of Conundrum Theatre Company, Lisa Sedares. Lisa and I hit it off pretty quickly, and before I knew it, she’d hired me to design her company’s upcoming production of Seussical the Musical.
Happy Opening Day to those who celebrate, and Let’s Go Red Sox! In honor of the occasion, I’m offering two of my ten-minute plays, The Boys of Spring And Fall and Pink Hat Blues for free today only on Amazon.
It’s that time again! Here’s what I accomplished over the last month, and what I’m planning on accomplishing over the next few weeks. Grateful for my Career Accountability Group and my Accountability Partner to help keep me on track. Let’s go!
That’s right! The Ninja Koalas are headed to The Land of the Midnight Sun! Cyrano’s Theatre Company in Anchorage, AK has licensed an eight-performance run of Super Sidekick: The Musical, running Saturdays and Sundays at noon until April 23rd!
So, I’m part of a Career Accountability Group. Basically, it’s a group of actors that come together monthly to hold themselves and each other accountable to doing the business and career work that is easy to ignore, neglect, or otherwise put off. Each member has a partner in the group, and partners check in with each other weekly. The group meets monthly to discuss our accomplishments for the previous month, share goals for the upcoming month, talk about news, share resources, and ask questions. Honestly, I find it absolutely invaluable.
As a playwright, I’ve struggled with landing production opportunities for my new plays the traditional way. So I taught myself the art of self-producing.
As anyone who dabbles in theatrical effects knows, cheap stage blood is very unforgiving and will stain your skin and clothes if you look at it the wrong way, whereas most commercially available bottles of “washable fabric-safe fake blood” come in tiny bottles that are prohibitively expensive. So, how do we keep the cleaning budget from ballooning out of control? By making it ourselves using my tried and true, super-sexy, fabric-safe, no-stain washable stage blood recipe, that’s how!
Well, we’ve survived another Hollywood Fringe. I mean, barely. But we survived. This year’s festival was one of the most stressful I’ve ever experienced as a venue manager. However, as an actor, a producer, a designer, and a playwright, it was a complete success!
Catch me in $h!+heads by Chambers Stevens, and my words in 25 Plays Per Hour presented by Theatre Unleashed!
I’m thrilled to be a part of this year’s festival not only as a designer, playwright, and venue manager, but also as a performer! That’s right, ya boy’s performing in a show this year, and I’m super stoked for you to come and see it!
