Episode 2.3 – The Tattered Capes Read-Through! | The StageCrafts

Greg’s been hard at work on his newest play, Tattered Capes, for years, and all that hard work’s about to pay off: the show will premiere at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival! Tonight’s the first read-through, and we get to meet our cast and production team! However, not everything goes smoothly…

ABOUT TATTERED CAPES

Synopsis: It’s Kevin and Stephanie Connolly’s fifth wedding anniversary, and Kevin has a night of celebration planned for them. Of course, this means he won’t be going out on his regular patrol of Metro City as his alter-ego, M-Pulse, the self-appointed Eminence of Electromagnetism. But things should be fine without him for one night, right? Wrong.

One would think that there could be no secrets left between a husband and wife after five years of matrimonial bliss, but when a powerful supervillain’s attack interrupts Kevin and Stephanie’s date, a hero’s unmasking bears significant consequences for the Connollys. Consequences that will resonate and redefine their relationship forever.

Development History: This show stared out as a fun one-act that Greg wrote for Theatre Unleashed‘s playwright-driven late-night show, Play/Time, in 2013, where I was challenged to write a new ten minute play per week for six weeks. A few years later, he had the opportunity to bring a show to the inaugural Short+Sweet 10-Minute Play Festival in Hollywood, and this was the script he selected. While they were rehearsing it, Greg realized there was a lot more story here to tell, so he submitted the show to Serial Killers at Sacred Fools. The cast managed to make it four episodes deep before getting killed off in the Playoffs. From there, Greg spent another three years fleshing out and developing the rest of the script. Now here we are at the 2019 Fringe Festival and the script is on its fifth iteration. Greg can’t wait to see what director Corey Lynn Howe and choreographer Soda Persi do with it!
