Poster for Material Wealth, Hold For Plane Pictures’ latest creation for the 2019 LA 48 Hour Comedy Film Project.

This past weekend, I once again teamed up with my friends under the Hold For Plane Pictures banner to write, shoot, edit, and submit a new short film in 48 hours or less for the Los Angeles 48 Hour Comedy Film Project.

We drew buddy comedy or dramedy for our genres, and considering who was in the Writers Room (me, Courtney Bell, Kip Stolberg, and Jacob Smith), we decided to lean into dramedy hard.

The writing process was surprisingly easy; we knew our actors, gear, and location in advance, so we took our required elements and threw it all together.

What emerged was an absurd dramedy in the vein of the Cohen Brothers and Wes Anderson; a quirky story with equally quirky characters and an absurd story delivered with an unflinchingly deadpan demeanor and strong visual style.

Also, my buddy Matt got to play with his swords on camera. #Winning

In other words, we had a blast writing this snarky little short, and I can’t wait to see it… at some point.

The festival screening is this Sunday. We’re in Group A, which starts at 5 PM. Unfortunately, I can’t be there, as I’ll be in tech for a children’s theatre production of Grease in North Hollywood. But, if any of you go, please let me know how it is!

And of course, I’ll share it on here the instant I’m allowed.

Onward and upward!

Matt as the Homeless Knight in Material Wealth.
